the vigil family christmas tree. 12.02.2010.
can it really be that time of year?? this year is kind of exciting because our new room is pretty much wrapped up. well, almost. we are awaiting our new gas stove which will be a beautiful and toasty addition and also our walls are naked and in need of beautiful art. as you can see, our tree is down there for the first time ever! it is so nice to lounge on the sofa and stare at the twinkling lights and inhale the aroma from the glorious virginia pine we picked out from our favorite family tree farm. as we were traipsing through the overwhelming number of choices of trees, each of us mentally noting possible keepers, tobin lets the cat out of the bag that he thinks we need a big tree this year since our new room has such high ceilings. i thought we were aiming for a medium tall tree, say 7 ft. when i hear his statement, i think, alright...that's true, tall ceiling...a big tree will be fine. then he points out the tree he has his eye on and the first image that crosses my mind is clark griswold and the griswold family christmas tree. after i gasped and put my eyeballs back in my head, i assessed my mood (go-with-the-flow mood) and gave in. i am happy to report that when we unleashed the beast from its netting no windows were broken by its boughs and the top does not (by centimeters) touch the ceiling. whew! it really is wonderful.
